WeEarth Launches Its Online Network Around the World
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 6, 2008 )
On Earth Day, April 22, WeEarth launched not just a website, but an integrated online media network powered by the voices of its members. WeEarth provides its users with a unique portal through which they can explore and share environmental and cultural information with a growing worldwide network of members who are encouraged to learn, react, and speak freely about their interaction with the planet and each other.
“At WeEarth the goal is to provide a network of resources that enables members and site visitors to explore our connectedness with each other and our planet,” said co-founder Patrick Sellers. “We think the time is absolutely right to harness, through the internet and digital technology, the forces of connectedness that are increasingly binding together people from all corners of the world. We really are all connected now in ways never seen before, and WeEarth acknowledges and builds on that.”
WeEarth aims to inspire its community to connect and grow while encouraging socially and environmentally responsible living. The network includes four main components:
- Village – a social network with numerous tools that promotes its users to create, develop, collaborate, and share ideas,
- Voices - a web-zine that produces and garners interesting, insightful, and inspiring stories, articles, and blogs,
- Marketplace – an e-store that hosts environmentally and socially responsible products making it easier for the community to participate in a responsible and sustainable economy, and
- Studios – a portal that gives filmmakers the opportunity to showcase and distribute their work.
On Earth Day, the concept became a reality with the launch of the first phase – Village and Voices. Currently, Voices publishes articles on topics ranging from ancient art and modern technology to current social and political issues. In the months to come, additional facets will launch such as the Marketplace, a store where eco-friendly products can be purchased and people can contribute to sustainable economy, and the Studios, a portal for viewing and downloading video content.

MULTIMEDIA ELEMENTS
QUOTES
“WeEarth is about 3 things;
- acting responsibly towards your planet and fellow humans,
- sharing in the experience of life through art, and
- using technology to help society advance in positive directions.
The Topanga Earth Day festival was a perfect fit, as it embraces all three of these things whole-heartedly. We made sure that the waste produced by the festival was properly disposed of and taught many people about recycling and composting in the process. We learned a lot ourselves and in the process got to participate in the celebration of life that this planet provides us. To sum it all up… IT ROCKED!”
